Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (Brugger) Bartelson, born June 15, 1917 joined the rest of her immediate family in Heaven on January 24, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, 7 siblings, her spouse, 2 children, and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by her grandchildren Anthony Bartelson (Patricia), Jo Ann (Button) Prentiss (Paul), Margaret Bartelson Forman (Randy), Nephews, Jim Brugger, Ross Brugger, Tom Brugger, Barney Brugger, Dale Brugger, Nieces Peggy Brugger Hobbs, Becky Brugger Bracht and their families. She was a life-long member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, was very involved with the local chapter of Catholic Daughters of America (participated in several CDA Bridge Flights), taught swimming for the Red Cross at Lake Geneva beach for years, played piano & organ at St Francis for years, was part of the hot lunch program there, too, before it joined the school district hot lunch program. She was very active in the local cancer society fund raising (annual door-to- door collection, the Corrine Kreissl Classic Car Rally, Tour de Lac bike events) and ran their patient outreach program for some time. She did piano accompaniment for several students at Denison and Badger for both vocal and instrumental competitions. Her daughter once called her a “professional volunteer”. She was never without a bag of knitting (which also probably had a deck of cards in it). She was very active in creating baby layettes (knitting the sweater, booties and hats and helping create the quilts) for Milwaukee Birthright. A graveside service will be held 11a.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019 at the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery in Lake Geneva, WI followed by a luncheon at St. Francis at 11:30a.m. Steinke-Lazarczyk Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Lake Geneva, WI is proudly serving the family.

Betty's love for our Church and her many years playing at Mass served as an inspiration for many of us as we sought to emulate her devotion. God calls us through the holiness Betty exemplified.

I’m very sorry for your loss, please accept my sincere condolences. Grief can be so hard especially the first year and though it may seem like death is the final state of things God’s word offers the hope of seeing those lost in death again during the promised resurrection. Christ spoke of this resurrection which means a standing back up, a restoration to life. At John 5:28,29 and John 6:40 he says in part “do not marvel at this there is going to be a resurrection...I will resurrect him on the last day”. So be assured you can be reunited with your loved one at a time when all things are made new. A time of true peace and security! You can read this at Psalms 37:10,11,29 and Revelation 21:4,5. There are many more heartwarming scriptures that give comfort and hope. For more please visit

I would like to offer my condolences to the Bartelson family and friends. Please know that we have a loving Heavenly Father whose purpose never included death. He created us to live forever in perfect health and happiness. He has promised to "swallow up death forever" and do away with pain, sickness, and death. He has promised to "make all things new." You can read this at Isaiah 25:8 and Revelation 21:4. As you await the fulfillment of these promises, reflect on your most cherished memories to get you through the hours and days ahead.
